Konami still uncertain of Silent Hill 5 platform

Filed under:

Some people really enjoy the comfortable zombie-slaying action of the Resident Evil series. Others, however, prefer the mind-rending psychological nightmare that is Silent Hill. A proper entry in the series hasn’t been seen since 2004’s Silent Hill 4: The Room, which departed heavily from the typical Silent Hill formula. Ever since, fans have been wondering about the inevitable new-gen sequel without much help from the series’ publisher, Konami. In fact, Konami has yet to officially announce the existence of Silent Hill 5 at all. In a recent interview with Dengeki PlayStation (unearthed by SilentHill5.net) Silent Hill 5’s chief designer, Masahashi Tsuboyama, is nearly as vague as the series itself. When asked about the platforms on which the game might appear, Tsuboyama states that a console has not been chosen. He also says that multi-platform status is not out of the question either. He further adds that the 360 is “definitely a candidate,” he likes Blu-Ray, and he believes Silent Hill probably isn’t a good fit for the Wii.

So, no definite confirmation then. Fear not Silent Hill aficionados, for there is a ray of hope. Konami’s E3 press conference is slated for July 11th. Let’s hope we get a real glimpse of Silent Hill 5 by then.

New SFII HD Remix sprite revealed, it’s Ken!

The image you see above, ladies and gents, is a sprite from the upcoming Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix for Xbox Live Arcade. In fact, it’s actually a little smaller than it should be thanks to our formatting. Now, we’ve seen a sprite from (deep breath) SFIITHDR before, but this is the first official image released by Capcom. As Capcom’s Brian Dunn puts it, “this is what it will look like (if you paused the game and took out the background).” Damn. If you like what you see, then you’re in luck, as Capcom will soon be opening a blog that will feature new art, news, and other goodies about their upcoming downloadable games. For those of you that have forgotten, those games include SFIITHDR and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (easily abbreviated SPFIITHDR), Rocketman: Axis of Evil (RAoE) and Talisman (T).

If Capcom’s other downloadable games are going to look this good, you can count us excited.

[Thanks, Jared]

The Video Marketplace just got Mindfreaky

This week on the Video Marketplace we’ve got your HD movie fix with Team America: World Police, Happily N’Ever After, and Freedom Writers. We’ve even got your TV hook up with Babylon 5: Season 5, Shooting Sizemore, and a few Comedy Central stand-up specials. There’s even random short form shows like Baxter & Maguire, Guacamole, and The Golden Age. But the most freaky interesting of them all is an exclusive five minute preview of Mindfreak: Season 3. Yes, we admit it … it’s a guilty pleasure and we’re intrigued by this guy. That Criss Angel is sort of crazy mix between a rockstar, a makeup aficionado, a gym rat, and a goth dad. Maybe we’re interested because it’s such an odd mix of persona and illusion … no matter. Give the clip a look if you’re willing to have your mind freaked or, for the twisted among us, a good laugh.

Rock out to the first vids of Guitar Hero III

Filed under:

Yup, these are videos of Guitar Hero III. Yup, they look pretty much like Guitar Hero II (and Guitar Hero I for that matter). Of course, no one really cares do they? It’s Guitar Hero! With that said, there are some small differences worth noting. First of all, the character models look like they’ve received some new-gen love and are more detailed. The HUD has some slight graphical tweaks as well, though none of them seem to affect gameplay. The star power meter has been replaced with a series of light bulbs. As you fill the meter, more of them light up. They slowly fade out once star power is activated. In addition to displaying your current multiplier, the left side of the HUD now keeps track of how many notes you’ve hit consecutively. Frankly, we’d like the ability to turn that feature off, as it could add undue stress to achieving those perfect runs. You’ll find another video embedded after the break. Check it out and tell us what you think.

Pandemic talks Mercenaries 2: no vs. multiplayer

Filed under:

Eurogamer recently sat down with Scott Warner, Pandemic’s lead designer for Mercenaries 2. We don’t get a ton of new info on the game, but it’s interesting nonetheless. One nugget that was revealed is that while most areas will respawn after they’ve been destroyed, there are certain areas that will remain in tatters after you’ve blown them to smithereens. The game will feature hundreds of new vehicles including boats, a first for the series. There’s bad news for multiplayer fans though, as there are no plans for any competitive multiplayer. Mercenaries 2 will, however, feature online co-op. Hit the “read” link for the full interview.

There is no mention of Bono in the interview by the way, though we expect he was — as always — lurking in the shadows.

Win Mad Tracks from Gamertag Radio

Buying a new Xbox Live Arcade game can be a harrowing experience. Even if a trial version blows you away, you can never be sure that the full game will be as impressive. For instance, what if it turns out that the full game is only three levels long? Tough luck, buddy. Them MS Points is gone. Given this unpredictable nature, we’re always happy to give someone the chance to win an Arcade game for free. Well, technically Gamertag Radio is giving it away, but let’s not split hairs, shall we? Specifically, they’re giving away a free copy of Mad Tracks. Head over to GTR for your chance to win. Remember kids, 800 MS Points saved is 800 MS Points earned.
